Experimental and Numerical Dynamic Properties of Two Timber Footbridges Including Seasonal Effects

Abstract This paper deals with experimental and numerical dynamic analyses of two timber footbridges. Both bridges have a span 35 m consist deck supported by arches. The main purpose is to investigate if the properties are season dependent. To this end, tests performed during cold day in winter warm spring Sweden. first bending transverse mode frequencies increase 22% 44%, respectively, due temperature effects case Vega Bridge. In Hägernäs bridge, corresponding values 5% 26%. For both bridges, measured damping coefficients similar spring. However, for modes different footbridges: about 1% bridge 3% bridge. Finite-element models also implemented. results show good correspondence.
